Dolores de los Santos, La Agujeta, comes from one of the most important and oldest “flamenco dynasties” in Jerez: the Agujetas dynasty. She is the eldest daughter of the mythical and anarchic gypsy singer Agujetas de Jerez, (1936-2015) from whom she inherits the ancestral “cantes” that shape her artistic repertoire.

A dignified heir to the saga, she was born in 1960, and she is one of the last singers who still keep alive the oral tradition. She is anarchic and essentially temperamental. She has a slashed, tortured and profoundly gypsy voice that expresses the heat of the forge and the rhythm of the hammer; the drama of the gypsy people and the soul of Jerez. Sometimes she feels bursting with emotions and the long-awaited and unexpected “Duende” appears that moves us all in an overwhelming way.

Nobody was ever left indifferent to her songs. and her genes and DNA stand out when they appear to smash the genuine “cante” (flamenco singing) of Manuel Torre, Tomás Pavón, Juan Talega, Mojama, Viejo Agujetas, Manuel Agujetas…, which nowadays Dolores Agujeta owns by her right and inheritance.

She has exported her “cantes” to numerous international festivals and important theaters in countries such as: France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Japan and nationally in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao, Córdoba, Granada, Pamplona, Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera, etc…, in 2009 she recorded the CD titled “MUJEREZ”(*) together with Juana del Pipa, La Macanita and Moraito Chico, which won the National “Flamenco Hoy” critics’ awards for the best singing and accompaniment album. This album gave rise to the show MUJEREZ, which played an important role at the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels, Amsterdam, the Nimes Flamenco Festival in France, the BBK Hall in Bilbao, the Alhambra Theater in Granada, Plaza de la Corredera in Córdoba, the Nou Barris Festival in Barcelona, Theater “Lope de Vega” in 2010 Seville Biennale and Madrid National Music Auditorium in 2012 cycle “Andalucia Flamenca”. In 2015 in Morón and Jerez La Agujeta appeared in the show “PASIÓN” together with Inés Bacán, Mari Peña and with Antonio Moya on guitar. She took part also in the show “JEREZ “presented on September 12 in Seville as part of the program of the “Bienal de Flamenco”, along with Juana del Pipa, Jesús Mendez, Diego del Morao and Manuel Parrilla.

She is currently recognized as one of the greatest representatives of Jerez flamenco singing. Although far from comercialization, she offers in all her performances an uncontaminated century-old singing.
